We shine the spotlight on RDP’s commercial corporate solicitor Delyth, who talks about Brazil, her love of baking and dog Daisy…
Q2. Job title
Solicitor in RDP’s Commercial Corporate Department
Q3. How would you describe your role at RDP in two sentences?
I deal with all legal requirements of a business. From advising how to structure the business, incorporation, day to day procedural documents such as board minutes and resolutions, shareholders and partnership agreements up to the big transactions of acquiring, merging or selling a business.
Q4. If you were to write an autobiography, what would it be called?
“Yes, it is an unusual name…. it’s Welsh”
Q5. If you could learn to do anything what would it be?
I’ve always wanted to learn how to surf.
Q6. Who is your idol and why?
I wouldn’t say that I have one idol in particular, but I do have so many people on a daily basis that inspire me, from my parents who both operate successful businesses, to my brother chasing his dreams of being world rally champion, to James and Sioned here at RDP. I think what they all have in common is show that hard work does pay off in the end.
Q7. What moment in your career are you most proud of?
The day I got my training contract.
Q8. What’s your favourite film?
Difficult, probably one of the marvel films. I have just spent the last two weeks re-watching the marvel franchise in chronological order in readiness for Avengers: Endgame which did not disappoint.
Q9. What is an interesting fact about yourself?
I was in a welsh film at age 5.
Q10. What is your favourite food?
It’s a tie between my mum’s beef roast or spaghetti bolognese.
Q11. What’s the best thing about your job?
When a complex matter comes to an end and you know that you’ve achieved the best outcome for your client and that they appreciate that.
Q12. What’s your guilty pleasure?
My guilty pleasure is watching rom coms, even though I know exactly how they’re going to end I love watching them. Netflix have a great selection of new films coming out at the moment, but my favourite would have to be You’ve got Mail, you can’t go wrong with Tom Hanks in a film!
Q13. How do you define success?
Success for me is knowing that you’ve done your best and working hard to achieve your goals no matter how big or small.
Q14. What are three career lessons you’ve learned thus far?
Always try to see the bigger picture and think about the client’s overall goals and not simply the transaction ahead of you.
Put the effort in to build a relationship with your client and learn what you can about their business. Always exceed expectations.
You can only do your best.
Q15. Chocolate or cheese?
That’s a difficult one, and definitely depends on my mood but I couldn’t live without cheese!
Q16. What do you like to do in your spare time?
Baking, visiting my family in North Wales and having cuddles with my dog Daisy.
Q17. What is your greatest fear?
Q18. Where is the best place you have visited?
Last December I went to Brazil for around three weeks, and whilst we were there, we went to the Iguazu Falls on the borders of Brazil and Argentina and they were incredible. I would highly recommend a visit!
Q19. What advice would you give your eighteen-year-old self?
I would tell myself to stop caring so much about what others think and do what makes me happy.
Q20. What should we expect next from the Commercial Corporate team?
We will shortly be launching our Company Secretarial and Start-Up Service that offers support to companies with their daily governance needs, and assisting companies that are just starting out… so watch this space!
